Atheists United will be hosting its annual National Day of Reason / Rational Day of Care blood drive. Local blood organizations will be on-site to process blood donors. Atheists United will be providing snacks, music, and board games at the event; and in addition will be screening a copy of the BBC documentary, "A History of Atheism," during the event. Kirkwood For Reason--a secular student alliance club in Cedar Rapids--will convene concurrently as National Day of Prayer events are being held on May's Island. In addition to circulating our humanist version of their prayers, Kirkwood for Reason will conduct a fundraiser for disabled military veterans in the area, as well as for the local women's shelter, Waypoint. Minnesota Atheists strongly values the separation of church and state. To remind our government of who they represent, we make our collective voices heard in the State Capitol while our fellow citizens observe the National Day of Prayer. Every voice counts. If you can take a long lunch break, or have the free time, we would appreciate making your presence known with us. You'll be hearing from the leadership of Minnesota Atheists, as well as from our members. Prepare to be moved by famous speeches you may have heard before, and listen for original orations on separation and the rights of atheists. Learn more about the event here.

Location: CitiGroup Center, at 53rd @ Lexington, New York City (Entrance is on E 54th St, 100 ft west of 3rd Ave. Once inside, go straight to the down escalator, and the blood center will be in front of you)

For the fourth year in a row, atheists in New York City will be taking part in a blood drive on the National Day of Reason, in order to contrast the benefits of positive, life saving actions, as opposed to passive prayer. Pennsylvania

Philadelphia

Sunday School children from the Ethical Humanist Society have filled Ziploc bags with non-perishable food items, such as cereal, boxed juices, coffee, containers of applesauce, instant soups, puddings, and other items to be distributed by Aid For Friends, a nonprofit organization which serves the disabled, elderly and needy in the Greater Philadelphia region. These bags, each of which provides at least two meals for each person, will be taken to the AFF headquarters for distribution by May 1st.

In conjunction with the National Day of Reason, PhillyCoR -- a coalition of local and national humanist, freethought and atheist groups -- holds a press conference at the Ethical Humanist Society of Philadelphia to announce a new nontheistic billboard which is on 1-95, north of Philadelphia. The billboard beckons nontheistic people by reminding them they aren't alone. Its premiere is in conjunction with a new Web site and toll-free number (1-800-REASON) that provides the public with further information about atheism, freethought, humanism, and Ethical Culture.


Washington State

Secular Seattle, a social group sponsored by the Humanists of Washington, invites people to donate blood at any of the Puget Sound Blood Centers, in honor of the National Day of Reason. Join atheist, humanist and freethought activists by the White House for a day of discussion and debate, to celebrate the National Day of Reason. Hear a speech about the National Day of Reason, and enjoy the day in the company of fellow freethinkers and atheists. Look for the podium set up on a patch of grass closest to the White House.
