Don't Want to Pray? Be Reasonable.

The National Day of Prayer was created by Congress in 1952 and is observed on the first Thursday of May. This year, the observance – on May 1 – will have a little competition from a consortium of humanist, atheists, agnostics and others. They're pledging to celebrate the day as the National Day of Reason.

"The goal of this effort is to celebrate reason – a concept all Americans can support," says a message posted on www.nationaldayofreason.org. More than 30 organizations are backing the plan, which they say is, well, reasonable.
